Food is essential, incredibly complex, utterly simple, timeless and of great importance for our future. I chose for this topic in the European parliament since food is one of my strong interests and because I want to bring forward concrete solutions in this highly polarized debate.
After months of hard work together with my maestro of an advisor Laurens de Meyer: I am proud to present Volt’s food vision for the future.
The Volt food vision revolved around three things: circularity, healthy nutrition, and strategic autonomy. And because Volt is both the party of big ideas and pragmatism, we laid out big policy evolutions alongside short-term adjustments.
If I can pull out two things from our vision to mention it is:
- Technical, natural, and social innovation is needed to be to tackle rapid changes in agriculture. We therefore propose a 50 billion euro’s investment fund to push breakthrough
- Smart zoning is crucial in finding the best combinations between different uses of our landscape. This reduces conflicts between nature and agriculture, improves circularity and gives farmers a long term perspective to invest.
